VVOB in Zambia is implementing the "Improving Teaching Skills in Playful Learning amongst Africa's Youngest (IT'S PLAY) in Zambia, Rwanda and Uganda. As the name suggests, the 5 year regional project is aimed at supporting the implementation of an innovative Teacher Professional Development (TPD) model to build play facilitation skills for Early Childhood Education (ECE). A key component of the project is to build the capacity of the ECE teachers and to support them in their learning through targeted coaching and mentoring visits.

Children in early education learn through play. The intervention teaches teachers to be deliberate about using play for learning. Play-based learning is part of the ECE curriculum in Zambia, however most teachers do not possess the capacity to translate this into actual activities for their learners. Through this intervention VVOB supports the ECE Directorate and the in-Service structures to translate the curriculum into practice in the classroom, focusing on emergent literacy and numeracy.

IT'S PLAY project is implemented by VVOB - education for development  in collaboration with Ministries of Education in Rwanda, Uganda and Zambia with financial support from The LEGO Foundation.
